The Association of Fundraising Professionals, formerly the National Society of Fund Raising Professionals (NSFRE), is the leading professional association of individuals responsible for generating philanthropic support for a wide variety of nonprofit, charitable organizations. Founded in 1960, the Society now serves more than 26,000 members in more than 188 chapters throughout North America. Mission Statement

Philanthropy – voluntary action for the common good – is a necessary element of civic betterment and of those activities that meet societal needs. Fund raising is an essential element in the philanthropic process. AFP, an individual member association, advances philanthropy through education, training and advocacy based on research, a code of ethical principles and standards of professional practice. AFP members and affiliates enable people and organizations to better serve diverse communicates and society as a whole. AFP is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit corporation.

AFP Foundation for Philanthropy

The fundraising arm of the Society is the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, nonprofit organization that raises funds for scholarships and mentoring programs, minority outreach, FRIENDS (a public service program that provides assistance to grassroots organizations), educational offerings, National Philanthropy Day and library/research services.

Code of Ethics

AFP exists to foster the development and growth of fundraising professionals and the profession, to promote high ethical standards in the fund-raising profession and to preserve and enhance philanthropy and volunteerism. Members of AFP are motivated by an inner drive to improve the quality of life through the causes they serve. They serve the ideal of philanthropy; are committed to the preservation and enhancement of volunteerism; and hold stewardship of these concepts as the overriding principle of their professional life. They recognize their responsibility to ensure that needed resources are vigorously and ethically sought and that the intent of the donor is honestly fulfilled. To these ends, AFP members embrace certain values that they strive to uphold in performing their responsibilities for generating philanthropic support.

Membership

Membership in AFP is on an individual bases and is not transferable. In the event of change of employment of address, written notification to the AFP International Headquarters is required. An address change form is available at www.afpnet.org. Go to the Member Gateway Quicklinks and select "Address Change." All dues are payable on an anniversary year basis.
