AFP MEMBER BENEFIT: CAREER PLANNER

The AFP Career Planner is available only to AFP members and at no charge. It allows individuals to evaluate educational needs by reviewing the list of roles and responsibilities of fundraising professionals, as identified in the AFP Practice Analysis and the corresponding learning objectives. In addition, members may complete a self-assessment to identify specific areas where they feel they need more information to help develop professional knowledge and skills. All of this can be done at any time during the day, seven days a week, from the comfort of your home or office.

The Career Planner also functions as a resource database that is searchable by key word, location, type of media, provider and learning objective. The resource database includes more than 1,500 books, hundreds of articles, all of the AFP Audioconferences and other audiovisual materials, AFP conference sessions, as well as online and on-site courses. These will include programs offered by universities as well as by AFP chapters.

Once members have identified a skill area to develop further, they can immediately link to learning resources in that area. After they have completed a learning resource, members can add the resource to the Record of Accomplishment. The Record of Accomplishment is a personalized history of each of the educational resources a particular member has completed. For those pursuing their CFRE, the Record of Accomplishment will be an invaluable tool for tracking participation in educational programs as CFRE will accept printouts from the AFP Career Planner for the education portion of its application.

With the AFP Career Planner, members can simply keep a record of their education activities electronically and then print out the record when applying. However, all CFRE applicants should also keep documentation of their education activities, such as programs and certificates of attendance, on file in case their application is audited by CFRE International.

To access the Career Planner, you must be an AFP member. Simply visit www.afpnet.org, enter the Member Gateway (left-hand navigation area or top area) and login. From the Gateway page, click on Career Planner to begin using the tool.

For questions/concerns about the Career Planner, please contact Professional Advancement at proadv@afpnet.org. And for login difficulties, please contact AFP International at 800-666-3863.
