Please save the date to join AFP Chicago's Continuous Learning Council (CLC) and Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) Committee for a dynamic program exploring how different communities give and what it means to fundraise across lines of identity. The event features an expert panel on culturally rooted giving traditions, followed by roundtable discussions on navigating fundraising in communities you may not be a part of. Walk away with new perspectives and practical strategies to approach cross-cultural fundraising with greater awareness and respect.

CFRE Credit
Full participation in Understanding Giving from Diverse Communities (Black, Latinx, Asian, LGBTQ+) - Expanding Impact Through Inclusive Giving is applicable for 1.5 points in Category 1.B -Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand key trends and cultural nuances in how diverse communities engage in philanthropy, informed by current research and lived experiences.

  • Identify common challenges and opportunities when fundraising in communities that differ from one’s own background or identity.

  • Explore culturally responsive fundraising strategies that honor and reflect the values of different donor communities.

  • Collaborate with peers to generate practical ideas for engaging diverse communities through respectful and inclusive fundraising approaches.

9:05 to 9:50 am: Panel Discussion: The Giving Habits and Places Within Different Communities and Cultures
10 to 10:30 am: Round Table Discussions with guided questions
