Join us for the very first meeting of AFP Chicago's newest affinity group: the Neurodiverse Affinity Group, on Thursday, March 23 at 4 :00 PM. This group was created to hold a welcoming, non-disabling, and comm unity-oriented space for neurodiverse fundraisers, and is the first group o f its type across all AFP chapters.
We want to hear from you about wh at attendees would like from a group like this, so please do come with ques tions and stories from your own experience to share (if you would like! Thi s will be a sensory-sensible and "spoon-conscious" me eting -- there's no obligation to turn your camera on or speak at any point ).
The AFP Chicago Neurodiverse Affinity
Group exists to create a safe space for neurodiverse fundraisers to thrive
in community, affirm each others' unique strengths and capacities, and wor
k to build a more accessible and welcoming field. The group supports visibi
lity for neurodiverse fundraisers, with twin goals to provide space for neu
rodiverse fundraisers to feel themselves and at ease, as well as to shift t
he greater community's understanding of and accommodations provided for neu
rodivergent individuals.
The group welcomes all Chicago-based
fundraising professionals and workers who identify as neurodiverse, includi
ng (but not limited to) those with Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dys
graphia, dyspraxia, dysnomia/aphasia, intellectual disabilities, speech dis
orders, Tourette syndrome, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and obsessive-c
ompulsive disorder. We also welcome fundraisers who are questioning whether
a given neurotype/status/identity applies to them; self-diagnosed as well
as clinically diagnosed individuals are both welcome.
If you ha ve any questions, please contact one of the Neurodiverse Affinity Group co- chairs.
