February 13 - Breakfast with Lt. Governor Sheila Simon – Education Reform in Illinois

Illinois Lt. Governor Sheila Simon will address the Association of Fundraising Professionals Chicago on Education Reform in Illinois – New Directions for State-Nonprofit Partnerships Wednesday, February 13 – just weeks before the state’s budgeting season kicks into high gear.  


Lt. Governor Simon,
a passionate education advocate, has visited each of the state’s 48 community colleges and 12 public universities. Over several months visiting each corner of Illinois, Simon gathered students, educators and the best educational minds in Illinois to discuss revamping higher education in our state. She will share the innovative ideas that she has compiled, and how the state must work with the private and nonprofit sectors to improve and reform higher education – especially at a time when we are all doing more with less. Click here to register for this program
 

37th Annual AFP Chicago Philanthropy Awards Luncheon Honorees Announced 

AFP Chicago will honor the area’s top philanthropists and nonprofit leaders on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Hilton Chicago Hotel (720 S Michigan Ave).  More than 700 professional and civic attendees will celebrate this year's honorees, each of whom has championed philanthropy and contributed invaluable resources to Chicagoland communities.

Call for President’s Award Nominations

Beginning this year, AFP Chicago will present the President’s Award at the annual Midwest Conference on Philanthropy (previously presented at the AFP Chicago Philanthropy Awards Luncheon).  The award will be presented to a fundraising professional who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to AFP Chicago. To nominate a deserving individual please click here. The deadline for all nominations is Friday, March 29, 2013.

Peer Mentoring Application Deadline Approaching
In March, The AFP Chicago Peer Mentoring Program will kick off a new class of mentors and protégés. Protégé applicants, with a minimum of one year in development, are matched with mentors who have a minimum of five years of development experience. For full program specifications and the application process for both mentors and protégés, visit us here. Application deadline is Wednesday, February 13.

  • A Force for Good Mentoring Program Seeks Mentors for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) – – Application Deadline Extended through June 30, 2013.
    The Chicago Police Department and its partner agencies have developed this program to provide 35 Chicago CBOs with skill-building classes, technical assistance and mentorship to increase their capacity to identify, obtain and manage grants and other funding.   • Axelson Center for Nonprofit Management Awards – Deadlines February 1 and March 1
    The Axelson Center for Nonprofit Management at North Park University is requesting applications for its prestigious Alford-Axelson Award for Nonprofit Managerial Excellence. The award comes with a $7,500 unrestricted grant.  The deadline for the initial (short) application is February 1, 2013. This award is given annually to two nonprofit organizations that serve the Chicago region and exhibit exceptional managerial practices. For more information on this award, please click here.     They are also accepting applications for the Excellent Emerging Organization Award (due March 1, 2013). This award is given annually to a smaller, grassroots organization that demonstrates the potential to become a major contributor to Chicago’s robust nonprofit community.   • Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Chicago (YNPN Chicago)
