The AFP Chicago Committee on Directorship invites the development community to submit nominations for the Board of Directors for one year terms beginning January 1, 2019. Strong leadership is a hallmark of AFP Chicago and we seek highly motivated and committed members for board service.  Applications for 2019 board service are August 22, 2018.

Who are we looking for?
AFP Chicago seeks directors who are committed to the non-profit sector and to advancing philanthropy in the organizations and communities they represent.  Directors are committed to ethical practice, donor rights, and other tenets of AFP International.  AFP Chicago is strongly committed to embracing the diversity that makes up our greater Chicagoland community. We seek nominees who:

  • Have been active AFP members (Chicago or other chapters) during each of the past two years;
  • Have strong leadership and service orientation, interests and experiences;
  • Serve a cross-section of Chicago’s diverse communities; and
  • Represent diversity of professional focus, age, race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and geography.

Volunteer for AFP Chicago - Join a Committee

As a member of AFP Chicago, there’s no better way to give back to the chapter or the not-for-profit profession than by volunteering for one of AFP Chicago’s committees. Joining a committee is a great opportunity to expand your network and share your skills to advance the fundraising profession as well as learn new practices from your colleagues. For those members with an interest in a particular sector of the philanthropic community, the chapter offers the opportunity to participate in one of our special interest group networks.

Committees are always accepting new members. To get involved right away and ensure maximum participation as a committee member, please complete and submit your Committee Interest Form. Join your chapter colleagues who have chosen to advance their networks and careers while enhancing member programs and services. Make an investment in your profession and yourself.





Marketing & Thought Leadership Committee

This committee is responsible for marketing and communicating the chapter’s activities, including developing chapter branding and marketing strategy and communications tactics, as well as thought leadership activities, including advocacy, public policy and trends.

Member Engagement Committee

This committee is responsible for developing strategies and activities that provide a meaningful connection with members and the philanthropic community. This includes the development of networking events and socials.

Peer Mentoring

This committee recruits both mentors and protégés, reviews applications and assigns pairings, creates and monitors mentor relationships, and creates related programming opportunities for protégés and mentors.

Continuous Learning Committee

This committee meets year-round to plan educational breakfasts/luncheons, special educational programs such as the Fundamentals of Fundraising and other franchised programs; webinars and joint ventures with other related groups; and Development Day Chicago as appropriate. This includes strategy, theme and topic development, speaker selection and recruitment, and leadership at the events.

Member Growth Strategies Committee

This committee is responsible for recruiting new members, creating recruitment tools, creating and implementing recognition and retention strategies including calls to lapsed members, and working to achieve annual membership goals.
