Megan WhitneyAFP Chicago White Fundraisers Advocating for Racial Equity (WFARE) Affinity Group - Virtual

In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn how practicing mindfulness transforms your ability to embody equity on a personal and systemic level. Megan Whitney will share how mindfulness supported her journey to overcome nonprofit burnout and engage with a community of folks across the Feeding America Network to embed equity into structures. view Megan's bio

Despite common misconceptions, mindfulness is not about turning off your thoughts or forcing positivity when you feel difficult emotions. It’s simply about being aware. By noticing what is happening in your mind, body, and external environment from a place of curiosity and kindness, you can respond to life’s challenges with greater compassion for yourself and others.

Since the best way to understand mindfulness is to experience it, we’ll practice short, simple techniques that help you move from autopilot to aware - especially during moments of stress.

You’ll learn how to integrate these skills into your daily life and organizational culture so you can respond with love instead of fear, be less hard on yourself, and contribute to a more inclusive culture - without burning out!

This virtual workshop is offered freely through the AFP Chicago chapter of White Fundraisers Advancing Racial Equity. Everyone is welcome to attend, no matter how you racially identify or where you live.

Understanding that white people have a responsibility to address and dismantle racism, White Fundraisers Advocating for Racial Equity aims to develop a shared understanding of systemic racism’s manifestation in fundraising, nonprofits, and philanthropy; support individual growth for fundraisers to become anti-racist; and develop tools, techniques, and support for fundraisers to influence change in their workplaces and the broader sector towards a more racially equitable society.
