AFP Chicago Neurodiverse Affinity Group - Virtual
Join us for the very first meeting of AFP Chicago's newest affinity group: the Neurodiverse Affinity Group, on Thursday, March 23 at 4:00 PM. This group was created to hold a welcoming, non-disabling, and community-oriented space for neurodiverse fundraisers, and is the first group of its type across all AFP chapters.
We want to hear from you about what attendees would like from a group like this, so please do come with questions and stories from your own experience to share (if you would like! This will be a sensory-sensible and "spoon-conscious" meeting -- there's no obligation to turn your camera on or speak at any point).
The AFP Chicago Neurodiverse Affinity Group exists to create a safe space for neurodiverse fundraisers to thrive in community, affirm each others' unique strengths and capacities, and work to build a more accessible and welcoming field. The group supports visibility for neurodiverse fundraisers, with twin goals to provide space for neurodiverse fundraisers to feel themselves and at ease, as well as to shift the greater community's understanding of and accommodations provided for neurodivergent individuals. The group welcomes all Chicago-based fundraising professionals and workers who identify as neurodiverse, including (but not limited to) those with Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, dysnomia/aphasia, intellectual disabilities, speech disorders, Tourette syndrome, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. We also welcome fundraisers who are questioning whether a given neurotype/status/identity applies to them; self-diagnosed as well as clinically diagnosed individuals are both welcome.
If you have any questions, please contact one of the Neurodiverse Affinity Group co-chairs.
