Join AFP Peer Mentoring Program: Inspire and Empower the Next Generation
We invite you to become a peer mentor in the
2023 fall cycle of the AFP Peer Mentoring Program!
Why should you consider becoming a mentor? We asked some current AFP Peer Mentors the same thing. Here is their “why” … APF Chicago’s Peer Mentoring is honestly my favorite AFP program! I have served as a mentor many times and each experience has been rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity to work with incredible, engaged, and enthusiastic colleagues representing a broad array of sectors in our industry. This has allowed me to continue to grow as a professional. My 1:1 work with protégés has made me a better colleague and supervisor to my own work team – how do I share ideas, how do I frame questions to spark creativity, am I a good listener, what are the challenges facing younger fundraisers? An incredible learning experience that I treasure. Stacey O'Malley

Why have I been a mentor in AFP’s mentoring program for 20 years? Because it’s one of the most satisfying things I’ve done (and still do) in a long fundraising career. I’ve met wonderful young fundraisers who I’ve had the honor of helping reach new levels in their careers and who have often become lifelong friends. My own proficiency improves with mentoring, as it is a steady reminder of what I know are best practices-- and have forgotten, or let lapse, until I share them with a protégé. Randi Frank, CFRE

Being a mentor in AFP Chicago’s Peer Mentoring Program has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I’ve had the opportunity to connect with and support individuals across several sectors, while also learning new perspectives, ideas and leadership skills. Mentoring is a wonderful way to improve your skills as a coach, prepare you for supervising direct reports, and grow your resume. I’ve also gained many friends and connections through our Peer Mentoring community on whom I can rely for guidance and advice. Christopher Chantson
