New Learning Opportunity, More Connections for Peer Mentoring Participants
Remember those days in college when the professor introduced a new concept, but you were uncomfortable or too shy to ask questions during class…in front of everyone? Instead, you visited the professor during their “office hours” so that you could ask your questions in an informal environment. Or perhaps you don’t feel comfortable asking for more guidance on a particular work project, or you’ve been designing a strategy but would love some feedback before you continue on a particular path. Who hasn’t wanted to “Phone a Friend” in a pinch – like on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? AFP Chicago’s Peer Mentoring Committee recently hosted our first Office Hours – a designated time for our current protégés to have invaluable access to skilled development professionals through an exciting new addition to our program. Twice annually, the Peer Mentoring Program strategically matches early-career fundraisers (protégés) with more-experienced development professionals (mentors) who coach, challenge and celebrate growth over the course of a 12-month partnership. Now, in addition to having an assigned mentor, discussion groups and program supports, protégés have the opportunity to network with other mentors during Office Hours and gain even more fundraising knowledge. Being able to participate in the Peer Mentoring Program is one of the most valuable benefits of an AFP Chicago membership. We are so proud of our Program’s components, including a full year of personalized mentorship; a targeted focus on personal and professional growth; and access to other mentors with a collective wealth of experiences and perspectives who are committed to each protégé’s success. We hope you’ll join our Peer Mentoring community and get answers to your million-dollar questions at our next Office Hours!
